Division of General Internal Medicine


The Division of General Internal Medicine provides primary and community medical care with special emphasis on:

  • Preventive care and health
  • The diagnosis and management of complex medical internal medicine disorders
  • Acute and chronic multisystem diseases
  • Periodic physical examinations
  • Treatment of minor injuries and disorders
  • Monitoring and treatment of chronic disorders

For persons with multiple disorders, our primary care physicians will manage and coordinate the person's medical care.

The Division of General Internal Medicine is actively involved in the teaching, research and service missions of the Department of Medicine. Teaching activities include leadership in the third year clerkship, fourth year acting internships, and postgraduate medical education program, as well as participation in numerous courses. Research activities and interests include cancer screening, cultural issues, diabetes mellitus, health care services, HIV, medical education, occupational medicine, violence and women's health.
